The enchanting co-op platformer returns this summer on PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and PC, bringing fresh challenges and features to the beloved series
FrozenByte, the developer behind the renowned physics-based co-op platformer Trine, has confirmed the upcoming release of the fifth installment in the series, Trine 5: A Clockwork Conspiracy, set to launch this summer on PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and PC.
Back to 2.5D Side-Scrolling
The latest entry in the Trine series returns to its 2.5D side-scrolling roots, abandoning the full 3D perspective that Trine 3 had attempted but received poorly in 2015. Trine 5 promises to be the longest installment yet, with familiar protagonists—Amadeus the wizard, Zoya the thief, and Pontius the knight—battling a new villainous duo and their army of clockwork knights.
New Abilities and Upgrades
Trine 5 introduces new abilities for each character, including gravity reversal for Amadeus, ricochet arrows for Zoya, and a throwable sword for Pontius. These abilities are unlocked through character-specific quests and enhanced by an upgrade system that uses green XP points collected during gameplay. Additional upgrades focused on combat, such as exploding boxes and a knock-back wind ability, provide increased depth and tactical engagement in battles.
Enhanced Difficulty Customization
FrozenByte has implemented expanded difficulty customization in Trine 5, allowing players to adjust settings independently for puzzles, combat, and resurrection (lives and checkpoints). This results in a more tailored experience, with varying challenges and encounters depending on the chosen difficulty and solo or co-op gameplay modes.
Collectibles and Co-op Modes
Trine 5 offers collectible hats, robes, and backpacks hidden throughout stages, as well as two distinct co-op modes: a classic mode for up to three players and a four-player mode with different character combinations. These additions ensure there is plenty of new content beneath the game’s familiar exterior to warrant another adventure in the Trine universe.
While there is no exact release date for Trine 5: A Clockwork Conspiracy, it’s scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Switch, and PC sometime this summer.
