Nintendo Goes Full Sherlock ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ: Subpoenaing Discord Over Zelda Art Book Leaks!

Oh, Nintendo! ๐Ÿ˜‚ In a classic “we’re not messing around” move, Nintendo filed an application to subpoena Discord ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ to track down a user who dared to leak images from an unreleased The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom art book. TorrentFreak got their hands on the juicy legal documents containing the subpoena request.

In February 2023, our sneaky Discord user, Julien#2743 (probably not his real name, shocker!), leaked images ๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธ from the game’s 200-page art book on the platform. This sacred tome, destined for the upcoming Collector’s Edition, contained images of the game’s characters, locations, and other super-secret spoilers. Nintendo sent Discord a DCMA takedown request ๐Ÿ“, and the images were yanked from the platform. But, as we all know, the internet never forgets, and those leaked pictures continued their online tour. ๐ŸŒ

Now, if the subpoena request is approved by a California district court (cue dramatic music ๐ŸŽต), Discord will have no choice but to spill the beans ๐Ÿฅซ on our mysterious user. Here’s a snippet from Nintendo’s subpoena application:

“Nintendo of America is requesting the attached proposed subpoena that would order Discord Inc. to disclose the identity, including the name(s), address(es), telephone number(s), and email addresses(es) of the user Julien#2743, who is responsible for posting infringing content that appeared at the following channel Discord channel Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.”

๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ Our leaker, Julien, claims the book was shared with them by a friend. Their exact words: “Heโ€™s a longtime friend so I wouldnโ€™t assume heโ€™d lie to me, I have more images but heโ€™s promising to send a bunch more so I will show them all once I can!” Right, because friends never lie. ๐Ÿ™„

Considering Nintendo’s fierce determination, it’s pretty likely the images from the art book were the real deal as the company seeks to take legal action against the user. ๐Ÿ˜

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is set to launch for Nintendo Switch on May 12, 2023. ๐ŸŽฎ Mark your calendars, folks, and maybe avoid leaking anything, okay? ๐Ÿ˜‰
